Abstract
This essay examines Jane Austen and Ben H. Winters' Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters (2009) particularly by studying the adaptation as a monster-mashup that employs carnivalesque caricature and sexual humor to reveal the flaws in Austen's original Colonel Brandon character and poke fun at the comedy of manners.
